Hey lads one of my mates used to ride in the tour (won the green jersey in 2003) and he reckons Nibali is really good value (in terms of having a bet- he's about 20/1) so that's worth keeping in mind.

Cookey is a legend!

He told me he's doing the expert tips on Unibet's Australian website for the tour (he used to ride for Unibet) so keep an eye on that to find out his thoughts. He is adamant that Nibali is flying and will give it a crack. Will be interesting to see whether the 'official word' is more accurate than the 'insider's word'. Time will tell! Interesting that both Aru and Nibali are $17 with the TAB. That doesn't suggest Nibali is supporting Aru. But it does supports Cookie's claim that 'both will try'.

@keffa
It would have been great for you to watch Cook win the green. I get excited watching any Aussie win one of these events but to be friends with the bloke? Awesome.

Aru v Nibali?
Given what you've told us I doubt I will pick either for my fantasy team. At least not until they show us their form.
Usually Giro contenders can't manage to do well in the Tour as they are too close together and they don't have time to recover properly. Although, having said that, Nibali was strongest in the last week of the Giro.
Aru hasn't shown any form to speak of, so far this year, but if he's trying to peak for the Tour that may mean nothing. Who knows?

Yeah it was unbelieveable. When we were at high school he was obviously a jet, and I thought he might be the kind of guy who could win a Commonwealth Games medal, or something like that. He used to ride track bikes as well, and also did triathlons. Never played footy. But to see him riding in the TDF and then winning a stage... that's when we realised, 'holy shit'.

I totally understand your point about riders backing up from winning a big race then trying to win the next one, so understand your reluctance on Nibali. And as you say, who knows about Aru? If he's trying to peak for the TDF then not showing form in the lead up may not mean much. It's hard to know though and we're really just speculating. Obviously you need so much to go right to win it, which is why, if I was having a bet, I wouldn't touch the guys at $2 or even $3. I'd rather have a small bet of $10 or $20 on someone between, say, $8-$20.

I wonder what this means in the rules:

Additional Transfer Amnesty
Each rest day there is transfer amnesty window. This will allow you the to get your team ready for the remaining stages of the period! The additional transfer amnesty window is below:
Window Start Time & Date End Time & Date
1 03.00 AEST on 10th July 2016 19:00 AEST on 11th July 2016
2 03.00 AEST on 18/07/2016 19.00 AEST on 19/07/2016

No idea.
If we get 8 up to the start of stage 7, then a further 8 to the start of stage 14, the amnesty is smack bang in the middle.
Maybe it means we can try out different trades during that period without them counting to the total?
Makes no sense to me.

Someone needs to find out for us. Well done to @Grater for volunteering.

I got an answer to my query and it's a doozy:
"A transfer amnesty means you can make as many transfers as you like during this period at no extra cost."

Don't you love it? You get 8 transfers in the 1st block up to stage 7. Then 8 plus however many you make in that specific 1-day window on July 10-11 and then a further 8 plus the ones made in the 2nd window.
It means that after stage 7 you can make transfers specifically for stages 8 and 9 because you can then make as many as you like, on the rest day between stage 9 - 10, for the other stages in the 2nd block without them counting toward the 8.
Likewise, after stage 14 you can make transfers specifically for stages 15 and 16 and the correct for the later stages on the rest day between 16 - 17.
That could be very handy.

Cheers mate. I had it all correct except I left out the space in the league name. All good now though. Looking forward to it!
Now if @doddy2731 and @Prospector join up we will have 6 in the league. That's one more than last year.
Anyone know anyone else interested? I've a friend who stays up to watch every stage but he's not into fantasy - he says.
Bonus this year is we can actually win prizes,

Later: I'm assuming that @Grater is joining.

Who else was involved last year? @doddy2731 @Prospector

Also, can anyone remember the result of our league in terms of where it placed and also the placings within it?
I think that we were placed quite highly until the last couple of stages but then dropped away.
And, not wishing to boast, but yours truly was the highest placed.
