Hope Ross takes Sheridan off at the half. Had him in my team as a mid-price POD from the start and prefer to keep it that way.
Like him a lot. Rated highly as an underage player, slipped a bit on draft night. Ross took a while to play/trust him. Found his niche at half back last year. I grabbed him as a free-agent in Draft late last season and he was great.

Been watching Sheridan as well. Looked good today and is improving.

Still not convinced.. Maybe it's due to having Ibbotson, Johnson and Duffield in the past. Freo's defenders/utilities just never seem to kick on

Ah, but I think Sheridan is different.
First, he's a kid and "grew up" in the Lyon system.
Second, he appears to be following the same trajectory as Lachie Neale. A few years to get established then a "break-out" year, 2014 for Neale and 2015 for Sheridan, where they get progressively better with a good end to the year.
Third, Sheridan's DE has become pretty good. NAB 1: 78.3%, NAB 2: 89.3%. The radio commentary today said that the other players were looking to get the ball in Sheridan's hands all the time.
Still, no Bennell and Mundy on the team today so who knows what his role will be next game?
At his price I'm willing to take the chance.

I know that at the Saints Lyon was always looking for a good outside-type who could kick and could never find enough e.g Andrew Lovett, Brett Peake. [We did have some but not enough for Ross.]

Good points Rupe. He's definitely on an upward trajectory.

Laird came from that range with a similar profile last year...

$350k with a couple of question marks, hopefully we see him again for another look.

Bloody hell, had a closer look at Sheridan. I'm a fan. Nice one Rupert, I'll be watching keenly for the last NAB game

Had a very nice string of form last part of 2015, coincidentally when he got a new haircut the form improved ;) The hairstyle theory strikes again

And let's hope most people remember THAT dropped mark in the finals and chose not to look too closely at Sheridan.

On Laird: he's my D1 at the moment for various reasons.
Notice his DE in the NAB: 95.2% from 21poss - 1/21 ineffective; 89.7% from 29poss - 3/29 ineffective. That's class.

Yeah I swung Laird in after NAB 1. I feel like he's the kind of guy I've 'missed' in the past. He's done nothing this PS to convince me he's a bad pick. I like him better than the gaggle of old dudes we could take in def otherwise.

@TwentyThree i have two of your old dudes in Bartel and Simpson

@M4TT B8S i went back to Simpson by downgrading Merrett back to Wells. Sheridan still on the radar though

M4TT stated in the forwards thread he though Yeo was a sheep pick. I posted a response there but here is the more appropriate place if there is going to be any discussion so here is what I posted:

"Off topic for this thread but I'm interested why you think Yeo is a sheep pick. Priced at 82 avg. Was forced to play a non SC friendly role at times last year but WC has defenders back - this should be good for a few PPG improvement. Has played about about 60 games and is coming into his 5th year so should still have some natural improvement left in him - again good for a few PPG upside. These two factors should put him in keeper territory for the back line. One of the only back line players who I'm confident has some up side. What makes you think he's no good?"

There's a bit of talk in this thread about the likes of Bartel being rested. Does the fact there are now two byes mean it is less likely these types will get a rest during the rest of the season?

Sorry, Cactus - only one bye this year unless of course you mean the "bye" b/n rnd.23 and the first week of finals.
With this week off I imagine that there won't be mass restings a la Freo and Nth last year.
But the likes of Bartel will still probably be given games off. The Doggies rested several players in the run-up to the finals last year, remember?

Talk of Bartel being rested comes from Scott saying he probably won't play every game this year.

Yes - that's what I was referring to - the round 23 break.

I did see that quote from Scott and it does have me a little convened ...

He had an extra week off last year during the mid year bye

Sheridan, Lonergan, Z Williams & Harwood..

Tempted by all of them but question I keep coming back too is can they be top 6 or even top 10 Defenders by years end?

I've seen Harwood mentioned a few times...have I missed something with him?

Fool's gold I think, not a good user so his ceiling is rather limited if he locks down the half back role (which looks likely)

That was my impression too, thought he'd be borderline best 22, but seen him in enough teams to question myself.
