Well, I hope people got through the first bye week OK.
As is often said, you can make up good ground in the rankings if you have prepared well and have a bit of luck.
I've got 16 on field before trades this week- assuming Stocker and Hayes don't play. So I'll probably be bringing in Bewley and Gardner.
That will bring me up to 18 with the possibility of a rookie->premium for a 3rd trade. I'm not sure which premium.
I'd like to bring in a fwd so as to not rely on my fwd rookies for scores. Ziebell and Daniel seem the best options. Or I could wait a week and bring in Buddy.
Undecided,

I have Merrett and Dunkley in my sights this week.
But may need to wait as I'm more likely to grab Sicily to strengthen my back 6.

I'm looking at a single or double downgrade (if you can call it that) this week. Hayes/Answerth to Bewley/Gardner, Hopefully this sees me with 18/19 playing this week.
Next week though... most of the rookies I'd planned to cull next week scored well last match so I want to hold for 2 price cycles/until maxed (Burgess/Duursma/Gibbons/Butters) which would mean trading them after the byes.
I'm looking at Macrae and Hurn once they have the bad scores cycle out. Not sure I'll be able to achieve this and avoid a donut Rd 14, I may have to go early trading Burgess or Duursma for a rookie.

Next week I'll be looking at upgrading BCrouch (to possibly Macrae), perhaps cash in Duursma also.
In 2-3 weeks Duursma/Burgess become Hurn
and Butters/Gibbons to a M7 (possibly Cunnington or an option below)
Hopefully I have enough cash to get here, my rough forecast says I've ~$40k cash, so not much room but an option below could help me out.

That leaves me with hopefully 7 trades remaining and needing to upgrade M8 and Mummy to Gawn (this looks like hurting me even more after the weekend). I need my rookies to put in some decent scores so I can have 2 trades remaining to cover injuries (which I know is already cutting it fine, but I think this would leave me in a very strong position compared to most). If I get some luck, having 3 remaining would be great.

It feels odd, normally byes (especially the 2nd/3rd) you want to be burning trades to get premo's in, it doesn't really make sense for me to do that if I want full premo and a trade or 2 spare.

Bont/Sloane/Merrett could be value at sub $550k around (Rd 14/15/16),
Price possibilities ~Rd 15 (Mids averaging 100+ with a low score to cycle out)

112, Bont sub $530k (73 last match)
110, Merrett sub $540k (85 last match)
107, Sloane sub $510k (may have dropped $75k after the coming week due to the injury impacted 35)
107, Oliver sub $550k (53 just cycled out)
105, Treloar sub $500k (104, 68, 93 last 3)
103, MCrouch sub $500k (123, 54 injury, 97)
101, Shiel sub $500k (68 injury last start)
98, Rockliff sub $470k, could be a M8 option for those struggling with trades/cash due to the odd bad score keeping his price low
The top 4 especially could be strong value Mid targets.

What are people’s thoughts on Ryan vs Sicily?

I’ve got room for another upgrade and am tossing up between Worpel or waiting a week and going for Cameron.

Cheers!

Seems like question of the week! Sicily perennial suspension risk and Ryan is relatively unproven, and more pricey. Will he be more accountable with Pearce out? My thoughts are leaning towards the cheaper Sicily just, but it’s a genuine 50/50 call.

I’d try to aim higher than Worpel. He’s barely averaging 90 and younger players have a tendency to fade late in seasons. Something to remember is that there are still 9 rounds left after the byes. The points gained by bringing in a less attractive option because they are bye free can easily be offset by substandard scoring post byes

As a Worpel owner I can tell you it is frustrating watching him week in week out get plenty of the pill and butcher it. Once he cleans up his efficiency he will be a great pick but that is more likely to be 2020 & beyond and by that time he will be classed as mid only.

At first glance he appears to be doing OK but maybe I’ll pick someone else. Thanks!

Who would you pick between Walters (494.4k) and R Gray (405.9k) for F6?

I don't really like either.
Walters has played only had 2 seasons, 2015-6, when he's played 20+ games.
Gray doesn't miss many but he seems to play injured a lot and spend a fair bit of time fwd.

I prefer Daniel at $484,700: a hbf role with consistent scoring.
Or Ziebell, who I'm bringing in, if you want to gamble a bit: he scores really well when he plays mid and with Higgins out you'd think he would.

Wow. I traded ROB out a few weeks ago cos I needed some cash. Should've dumped Mummy instead... :-(

If you held both Walsh and ROB you'd be happy.
I traded out both a few weeks ago to avoid donuts and bring in premiums. e.g. Josh Kelly and Boak, so I'm not too distressed.
And as @nawtay says, how could you have predicted ROB (and Walsh) would get such high scores and in a bye round? In the 6 games since Walsh's last 100+ score his highest was 93; ROB's previous highest was 123 in rnd.7.

Well what do I know?
Walters with a huge 150+ score on the back of 6 goals.
R Gray playing mid-fwd but scores 99.
